The Head of SRE will have a diversified background of hands-on Software Engineering and SRE experience, leading and coaching SRE teams in a matrix organization, demonstrated project management acumen, plus a superior and inspirational can-do mindset.

The focus of this position is to act as a coach and people manager to the SRE team leads and members. In this position, you will also serve as a key liaison with business, product and technology leaders across the enterprise. The position facilitates planning, prioritization, and collaboration between groups and the delivery of our end-product. You will be reporting directly to the CTO of the company.


What will you do?

Being the Head of SRE at Payconiq means you play a key role in leading, professionalizing and expanding our infrastructure team. Together with Engineers and Team leads you will build and execute the SRE Strategy for Payconiq which helps us be scalable, secure and reliable. Payconiq is growing fast and is constantly investing in its modern and cloud-based infrastructure and automation to keep up with the requirements and increased scale. The SRE team is responsible for all AWS infrastructure that powers the Payconiq products and services.


Together with your SRE team, you will be responsible for building secure, scalable, reusable infrastructure architecture. You will work together to create effective high-quality cloud-based security solutions to prevent our systems from failing and you will help setting-up clear monitoring mechanisms for the times it does. On a day-to-day basis, the SRE Infra team is working with tools and technologies such as Docker, Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes, Terraform, Linux and Python.


As a team, you will provide our development teams with infrastructural and observability tools to help guide them to implement SRE practices, allowing them to become responsible for their own services and code.

Requirements

As Head of SRE you’re able to bring:

  • At least 6-10 years of experience in managing teams of 15-30 persons or more.
  • Good communication skills; high proficiency in English and the ability to clearly and concretely express yourself. Dutch language skills are an advantage.
  • An analytical mindset with an intrinsic sense of curiosity; being able to see the bigger picture and wanting to understand how things are working at all levels of the system.
  • Positivity and a ‘can-do’ attitude; always looking for ways to create a welcoming environment for colleagues and never shy to take action where needed.
  • A critical view; always looking for ways to further improve your own and our team’s efforts.
  • A desire not only to improve knowledge but also to share it for the benefit of everyone in the team.
  • The ability to build team cohesiveness and mentor and coach other people to higher levels of performance and inspiration


In addition, you have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in computer science, or related major from an accredited university - or equivalent years of experience.
  • 6+ years of hands-on Agile and technology experience in a complex and multiple business unit organization.
  • 6+ years of leadership experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • 6+ years building high-performance and large-scale infrastructure/systems.
  • Experience and ability to communicate at all levels within and outside the organization including board room/C-level reporting experience.
  • Experience in modern infrastructure technologies, test and deployment tools, configuration tools and Cloud Service providers.
  • Experience with working in an AWS-hosted environment, establishing and leading successful large-scale projects and programs across an enterprise utilizing external providers, offshore resources and internal staff.
  • Practical understanding of security and privacy standards (e.g. SOC2, GDPR)
  • Passion for excellence and unwavering desire to improve.
  • Experience in budget planning and financial management.
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual thinking, planning and execution skills.
  • Experience in the financial/payments domain (considered an advantage).

How the hiring process will look like:

  • 3 interviews and an assessment. The interviews will be with: CTO, Head of Engineering and HR.
